Is there a way to generate barcodes and have the barcodes tied to assets? For example, if I want to generate barcodes using a certain prefix for all desktops, can the system a) automatically do that (e.g. DT0000001, DT0000002, LT0000001, MON0000001, etc) b) add them to the assets automatically and c) batch print them to a sheet of labels?

If this can't be done, how do I add barcodes to existing assets and see the code (I don't want to repurpose the serial number field) in the Assets view?

No current way of doing this but I think it has come up before. Any barcode system we did add would probably need to be globally unique, so ASSET-000001 (like tickets and invoices are numbered).

wrongecho while it's not ideal to have it globally unique, I'm not opposed to that. This way it's easy to generate and print a barcode for each item I add into the assets, rather than having to find other software to generate it. In the short term, is there a place in each asset where I can store the barcode without sacrificing the serial number? I don't want to lose my Dell service tag, for example, or have to start shifting the service tag from there to the notes section.

The idea is interesting, but I think that it would probably be easier to get a Dymo label writer with their software, and use that to print your asset tags.

However, another good use for barcodes would be to have them on shipping forms/packing slips if ITFlow ever implements something like that.
