Updating from 5 month+ old version to current - Help

I can't update via the Update button. Force update causes Internal 500 Error.

I know, I've realized I'm insanely far behind on updates. Honestly, I never successfully updated before, and since it always said "Update Successful", I've just assumed that the page looks the way it should, and that it's normal to "list the change list" essentially. I noticed a buddy had some more features than me, and wondered why updating wasn't showing new features. After looking into a ton of posts here and going down a few rabbit holes, I've learned that "Update Successful" was actually cap. It very much never has been successful lol.

I'm also not 100%, but I think I ended up on the "Develop" branch somehow. When I try to switch to master, it breaks as well.

Still no luck. Strange error, since I've never modified any files locally, not sure why it thinks it'll be overwritten.

Is it potentially possible to glide along an update path?

For example, could I switch repo to a specific version, update, switch to a newer version, update, etc?

I've tried a few more shotgun approaches, all leave me with Error 500.

sudo -u www-data git reset --hard HEAD

sudo -u www-data git pull

sudo -u www-data php update_cli.php

Then

sudo -u www-data git stash

sudo -u www-data php update_cli.php

And the nuclear option didn't work either, to no surprise I guess.

sudo -u www-data git reset --hard HEAD

sudo -u www-data git clean -fd

sudo -u www-data php update_cli.php

I checked, and I'm on the Master branch. Not sure where I saw that I was on Develop. Apologies!

Crafting up a fix as I go.

Looks like I've been able to force update somewhere in the middle, going based on Git commit dates.

This seems to have gotten me to v25. I'll write back if it works all the way up 😃

Commands Used:

sudo -u www-data git stash push -m "Local customizations before v25.01 update - $(date +%Y%m%d)"

sudo -u www-data git checkout v25.01

Also, I've noticed the update script locations have changed after v24 as well, into /scripts. And the update DB scrip name changed as well, so I had to alter my process once hitting v25

sudo -u www-data php scripts/update_cli.php

sudo -u www-data php scripts/update_cli.php --update_db

Getting there! I'll update as I go.

Now moving to 25.02

sudo -u www-data git checkout v25.02

sudo -u www-data php scripts/update_cli.php --update_db

Ran the update_db again till max DB version.

sudo -u www-data git checkout v25.03

sudo -u www-data php scripts/update_cli.php --update_db

I had to update the DB like 20 times here lol. Till max version.

Everything seems to be up to date now, but I'm see a strange issue.

It says I'm still very behind on commits in the Updates tab. Restarting Apache to see if this fixes it. Also going to chown -R www-data:www-data and chmod -R 775 the /var/www/itflow folder to see if maybe it's a perm issue.

Strange issue, should be easy to fix though. Seems to have "forgotten" the git.

Will update once again once fixed.

To sync back up to the Master branch fully:

sudo -u www-data git branch -f master HEAD

sudo -u www-data git checkout master

And to finalize the updating:

sudo -u www-data git pull origin master

sudo -u www-data php scripts/update_cli.php --update_db

And I'm finally on max version. Everything seems to be in order as well!
