Good evening

I have done an update tonight and I am getting an error message in the admin portal saying Warning: Could not find execute 'git fetch'. Do you have git installed? any ideas at all i am running a ubuntu 20.04LTS not sure if I should have a package installed for this to work ?

Hi @ESN can you post your web server errors logs timestamped for the time you get the error message. Hopefull that should tell us whats going on.

It looks like you don't have git set up for your ITFlow/web directory - the error is saying it can run the git command, but that it can't find a .git folder (indicating git isn't set up).

How did you install ITFlow, and how are you keeping it updated?

Sorry for the delay.

So git is a source control management system. You've installed git, but that's just one part of the puzzle.

Git tracks different repo's. Ideally you'd have downloaded ITFlow using git clone as that would allow git to keep your local copy of the files up to date with the ones stored on GitHub.

If you navigate to your web server directory where ITFlow is installed (probably /var/www/data) you should be able to use the following commands to get your git to point to ITFlow on GitHub and allow updates to work. Of course, please first take a backup.

git init

git remote add origin https://github.com/itflow-org/itflow.git

git fetch

git reset --hard origin/master

Ah, that's annoying, definitely fixable (someone else on another thread used the same commands just fine) but if you're not familiar with git and Linux this might take a little while.

Solved: The files had been manually moved after the install to a different folder under /var/www/, but the .git folder was missed.

As the files and permissions already existed, the repo had to be setup under the context of the www-data user:

sudo -u www-data -- git remote add origin https://github.com/itflow-org/itflow.git
