Keep in mind that the Microsoft page isnt wrong. They did implemented the Oauth2, but there is a way for you to disable the new authentication method if you have access to the admin center from your email account. offcourse you must be an admin to disabel those functions to each specific email account.
In my case, they showed to me how to do that part, and my SMTP started working after we disabled the Oauth2, but i am still having issues with IMAP.
So you can disable the Oauth2 if you want.
