@Aaqif Have you had much involvement in open source projects? I feel like your expectations are completely out of whack. ITFlow is a community project made up of like-minded individuals trying to solve a common problem. It's very different to using commercial software with a VC firm behind it.
We're not really a company as such. With anything, there's a bit of beer money to be made on the side; yes, Johnny and I have started to offer donator/paid-ish support, and might eventually offer hosting, but we're not a "start up" or anything. I am so incredibly thankful for our sponsors, but it's not as if Johnny and I are rolling in cash because of ITFlow. My company bills me out at £200+ an hour for infra support. Johnny and I offer essentially unlimited support for $60/mo. If a sponsor uses just an hour of my time, that's less than a third of my usual pay. I'm not in this to make money, I'm here because I like technology, coding and problem solving, the sponsorship is just an encouragement to direct my free time in a certain direction.
Whilst our feedback on Reddit is mainly positive, I honestly could not give any less of a fuck what is said over there. You can make the same post on Reddit on three different days: The first might be downvoted, the second might reach the frontpage for that subreddit with lots of support, and the third might get removed by the mods. It's not something I lose sleep over.
I've put hundreds of hours into this project - if someone doesn't want to use it, it's down to them. It's not a trashy freemium tool. It doesn't send your data to third parties without your consent. It doesn't tie you into a scammy contract. You can use EVERYTHING, for free, with full access to the code. You can even make posts here on the forum, and receive help from others, again for free. We are providing almost everything a commercial tool offers, and more.
The line that really got my back up, for multiple reasons, was "establish yourself as a legitimate expert". Like, we have done all this, and you still want more? You want us to doxx ourselves just so that you feel "safe" to use the software we are providing to you, for free? I'm not going to beg you to use ITFlow. Go ahead and use something else, it won't make an ounce of difference over here 🙂
