Error updating from Settings > Update

Hello,

I reviewed the documentation that said going to Settings > Update in IT Flow is the best way to update the server. When I go to do this the page goes blank and if I try to refresh or check it later (hours later) it still will show a error page in the browser. All browsers and devices that access it experience the same outage. See attached screenshot.

HTTP Error shown I cant seem to figure it out. I am hosting on my own server environment on prem its ESXi that has the ITFlow installed on a VM which is running Ubuntu 64 bit 22.04 and LAMP stack I am not that good at troubleshooting in linux (basic and with PHP not so good as well).

I think if I provide the error.log could you help me locate the problem?

Screenshots and file uploads here don't appear to be working. Do you have either a discord contact in the server I can chat with to provide privately or a support email?

Go to settings > Debug Copy all text on that page and paste it here.

Hey johnny thanks for the response. I just logged in and went into settings to look for > Debug in the panel of options I don't actually have that unfortunately. Can you advise alternative location to get you this info?

Oh you must be far far behind then. There has been many breaking changes since then:

A few questions:

When did you last update?

Are you running ITFlow in production?

Okay so lets see if we can find out where you are in the updates

Does your instance still support multi company support - One way to find out is go to setting > companies if that doesnt exist and only settings > company does then we are in good shape

What DB Version is currently installed you should be able to find this by going to settings - update should say current DB Version?

johnny Oh crap! Yeh it exists if I go to settings > Company I can make more companies and there is a red banner at the top that says "The multi-company feature should be considered deprecated. It may be removed in the near future - please see the forum post."

Under settings and update is a list of events with columns that say "Commit" "When" "Description"

Followed by the list of events. Looking through them all I cant seem to find a DB Version. At this point would it be safer for me to abandon this install and spin up a new VM then copy over a few things? I opened this support thread before putting a bunch of stuff in ITFlow yet even though we have it in production with a few important things in it…. Just trying to see what may be best to update it sounds like it needs?

You should be able to upgrade no problem but will have do a lot of manual intervention. If you click on announcements tag https://forum.itflow.org/t/announcements in the forums just follow the steps there.

If do decide to go for the full reinstall. The prefferred method for new installs is downloading and running a shell script on new Debian 12 Installs

It also recommended to update at least weekly and keep and eye on the forum under tag announcements https://forum.itflow.org/t/announcements for any new major changes. I think we already got through the big change hurdles so it should be lite sailing going forward.

Step 3 "Make sure the companyid is 1 in the SQL Database"

I am in phpmyadmin I just installed it to access the DB within MariaDB on the "companies" table I see just 1 row (so just 1 company) and the "company_id" for the one listed was already set to 1

So I went to go run the update and its still broken shows "This page isn’t working"

itflow.nerdynetworking.com is currently unable to handle this request.

Note: i see some certificate stuff… itflow.nerdynetworking.com is secured externally with CloudFlare and applies HTTPS when I try to also do the same update button by accessing ITFlow locally by https://IPV4HERELOCALLY and login to do the same thing I get the same error.

For the certificate stuff you've probably got a bad value in config.php.

For the database stuff, you'll need to manually apply the updates in database_updates.php via Phpmyadmin/CLI until you're up to a point where you can actually login and do it inside the app. You can find your current database version in the settings table.

Thanks that sounds like a good plan to try next here I can give it a go. Can you advise since I think Phpmyadmin method may be the easiest I have not done either way before, can you tell me where like steps wise in Phpmyadmin to go to kick off the upgrade process?

@mikev We are currently on DB Version 0.6.3 This is the file you will want to reference on what tables and fields need updated, added or created. Also take note of the queries that you need to run this is very important as well.

you will want to start on the following line:

then work your way down

If your running a Virtual Machine take snapshots along the way

In the future until we hit stable you will want to keep this updated at least weekly and closely follow the forum for any breaking changes.
