Show a Client ID

Hi Devs,

What are your thoughts on showing client IDs in both the Client page in the list next to the Client name and/or on the specific clients page near the topnext to the Client name? I know there is already a Client ID allocted in the DB but would be nice to pull this through to the UI give Clients thier ID for payments refrences etc.

Nice additions but I don't think we need it everywhere. It's in the URL when you're on a client page anyway..

Maybe use an icon, like "info-circle", beside the name that shows the ID on hover. This could also be a place to put more information later, if it makes sense.

and as @wrongecho suggested the client id is already clearly in the URL for client _ top _head.php can be removed.

I would agree with the tooltip on the clients list page, but would suggest to make it visible without the need to hover (like in @johnny's first implementation) in the client details page. This allows for hassle free retreival of the client ID if already on that page and if for example you're on the phone to that customer.

I would also like to suggest placing it somewhere on the invoice & statement. Many clients who pay recurring invoices would simply use their account number (as automatic payments would be static and the invoice number changes).

zaim and herein lies the issue of using the client ID for things. The client ID, unlike the ticket number and invoice number fields, is the auto incrementing key used by the database for identifying/managing that row of client data.

I have to admit, I'm a little confused why you guys are giving the client their ID. It's just meant as an internal identifier in the database for that client.

Given that we don't offer a way to lookup clients by their ID, what's the benefit of them providing it over say, their company name?

My two cents. As a business you have a client ID with a vendor that should be on all of your invoices. Who knows how it is generated. For some I am F1-12345, others I am customer 32768, for some JH1234. As the vendor, your clients have ID's. It should be up to you if you give your client their ID.

Using the database ID for your client number can either look good (hey, I am your 3rd client!) or bad (you only have 10 clients?).

Of course your clients have identifiers, all I'm saying is that the database ID was never intended to be used in this way.

The custom client abbreviation might be a better way of referring to clients - we recently made that customisable and it'd be easy to add it to invoices.

In the past where clients have had an abreviation like this we agree it with the client (e.g. Bobs Burgers might be BBGS) and then we name all their servers with the prefix too (BBGS-WEB01 /BBGS-FW01).
