Mail Setup IMAP and SMTP

Hi Guys i have followed all the steps to setup IMAP and SMTP to send and receive emails.

I understand that MS365 needs Oath and it may not work, but i have also tried a config using my personal gmail account, but i am still not able to make it work from MS365 and also from gmail, ideally i would like to use MS365.

I have enabled Cron, checked the config and the key inside ITFlow. I have also enabled email apps (Authenticate SMTP), still not able to send or receive emails from the testing area.

Any help?

for port 465 choose TLS for encryption then try again

I have tried all the options for IMAP and SMTP, tls, ssl, none, everyone give the same result.

Any other plan?

Just checked, seems a bit complicate for me… i dont want to try those steps and get a chance of breaking something else. Anyone that could help me maybe by remote accessing my pc or something like step by step? seems like the information to setup MS365 is spread in differend links and webpages, where you get examples from different sources and apps.

By having someone that really know what they are doing would help, or maybe a real step by step guide.

We don't regularly do screen sharing sessions via the Forum. I've only done them for people with ongoing issues that are tricky to debug remotely, rather than setting up custom workarounds. It goes without saying, you should be cautious about allowing anyone remote access to your machine/servers.

In my case i watched all the videos and instructions on the forums, seems like MS changed something else related to this IMAP and SMTP since last update from this forums.

I am not able to make it work, and everything people told to do on the forums has been completed on my end, but still not working.

I guess i will have to use normal email account to send and receive replies from clients.

The oauth proxy was the workaround I was referring to. If that doesn't work, then you'll need to run your own mail server or use third party services.

We are aiming to add oAuth support one day, but it's fairly low on the list of priorities.

I dislike the way Microsoft is pushing this so much and acting as though a client ID and secret is somehow more magically secure than a username & password for fetching and sending email. I completely understand it let's you be more specific about permissions, but there just isn't enough general support for it and it's becoming a massive pain.

wrongecho thank you for your reply. I was able to comunicate with Microsoft support and they was able to disable their Oauth2 related to my email and use the basic autentication as before.

They was able to make the IMAP mail system work under ITFlow, but we are still struggling with SMTP. So, i can send emails but i cant receive yet….They are still investigating on this, i am getting an error: "Email parser: Failed to connect to IMAP" while checking the Audit logs inside ITFlow.

we are waiting 24hrs for the DNS MX records propagate and they will contact me tomorrow again, but i would like to know if this log error isnt something inside ITFLow but Microsoft stuff.

Can you please take a look on the latest logs to make sure it isnt maybe a bug inside ITFlow?

I encourage MSPs and companies to run their own mail servers. It lowers the attack vector and provides data sovereignty. I'm not sure why everyone is putting their eggs in one basket these days

It's worth mentioning IMAP Basic Auth in M365 is legacy, they'll turn it back on for you but it'll break at some point.

Your logs there show IMAP errors, not SMTP.

You'll need to attach relevant logs from the PHP Error log too.

wrongecho Yes, my SMTP is working fine. My issue now is only with IMAP.

I will see if i can figerout how to get the php logs for you.

wrongecho I am sorry for asking this type of question, but i could not find the log file where i can attach the errors rergarding the IMAP. Can you please tell me where i can fidn the errors logs that are being generated by the IMAP?

The PHP error log is usually at /var/log/apache2/error.log

There will be a fair amount in there, you don't need to share the full log. You can run tail -F /var/log/error.log to get a real time view, which will allow you to identify the recent relevant logs by waiting for the Cron job to run.

Here is the latest version of the log. Aparently there is something wrong on my settings, if i am not wrong it is on line 183 on seting.php file. i will check out that line, to see if maybe i can see the error. feel free to post any help, from anyone.

Here is a screenshot of line 183, i dont see anything wrong, i am not a linux or a programer, but i dont see anything like extra spaces or missing argunments. I have alsocheck my password and username, there is nothing wrong inside ITFlow.

The error is generated by the code on that line. It looks like the connection is failing, so likely the host name or port is wrong. Your host name looks odd, this would usually just be something like outlook.office365.com

Again, I'm not convinced that IMAP Basic Auth will be around much longer for O365. This page suggests it's already gone permanently, but perhaps support have said otherwise.

wrongecho No Worries , i have a phone meeting with Microsoft regarding this issue, aparently this is also important for them, everything you are saying here, i am telling them, offcourse i am not mentioning names, but the "Forum".

Microsoft are the ones that told me to use that host name, and that port.

I guess at some point ITFlow will need to adopt the new method of MS authentication, if what that page is saying, then ITFlow will need to come up with a solution for the new MS Oauth2.

Let me talk to them today to see if they wil fix my issue.
